After finding out you’ll be going through one of the most important moments of your life, there comes a sense of preparation. One of the most important things to do before your baby comes into the world is to prep the space they’ll be spending most of their time. Making sure they have a well-designed space that will be soothing and enjoyable to them and you is essential. We’re going to give you some tips on how to design your baby’s nursery so it’s both stylish and useful throughout their childhood
Cribs are an important part of creating a safe and functional bedroom for your newborn. They’re also one of the most expensive items you’ll need to purchase, so it’s good to know how to choose the right crib. It sets the tone for your baby’s environment and needs to cover all the necessities while also remaining neutral and soft to keep the room cohesive. Cribs made out of natural materials are most versatile and easily integrate into contemporary decor. We’re loving this birch wood convertible crib from Pottery Barn Kids.
This is the item of the room that is for you. As you’ll be spending endless nights rocking your baby back and forth, it’s important to choose a comfy rocking chair that still meets elements of design. A fluffy design with a neutral fabric and soft material is key when it comes to picking out your chair, as it also encourages a soothing and welcoming environment.
To ensure your child (and yourself) has a good night’s sleep, or at least try to, blackout curtains are a necessary investment. Generally, we recommend more neutral colours, as these go with everything. However, if the room is completely white and most of the baby’s furniture is cream or a lighter shade, you can pick out a darker shade or a pastel hue (such as pink) to complement the predominant neutral notes.
While not the fanciest item to purchase, there are options available that make this necessity a little bit chicer. A changing table that combines textures with wood would be an ideal purchase, as it adds some visual interest to the room. You can also change the covers to create a warmer or more neutral aesthetic, depending on your taste (and the rest of the room).
To add some extra visual appeal to the room, adding a rug that has some creative patterns is a wonderful way to break the one-note palette. Rugs made with texture and fun print can add some aesthetic joy to your baby’s environment, and you can also enjoy some sitting downtime, while they may crawl on the floor.
As sweet as your child’s laughter, a simple mobile will bring some gentle sounds and visual appeal to the space. Exploring simple, geometric shapes helps keep your baby entertained, while also remaining chic and put together. Meaning, the room can be as much for your little bundle of joy, as it can be for you, as the mobile will look like some ornamental hanging decor.
